Jdo: Iliadis lifts roof by claiming gold

ATHENS, Aug 17 Reuters - The roof came off a packed Ano Liossia Olympic stadium in
Athens today as home fighter Ilias Iliadis claimed Greece's first Olympic gold medal in
judo.

Iliadis, the European champion, only stepped up to the men's under 81kg category this
year but capped a dream season beating Roman Gontyuk of Ukraine in the final.

Despite nursing an injured left elbow and with blood streaming from his face, Russia's
Dmitri Nossov beat Mehman Azizov of Azerbaijan for bronze with a powerful pick-up technique.

Brazil's Flavio Canto took his place on the podium as well, beating Poland's world
bronze medallist Robert Krawczyk for bronze with a side take-down.
