Fed; Intel first line of defence against terror, troops last
The head of Australia's new counter-terrorism command says good intelligence is thefirst line of defence against terrorists.
Major General DUNCAN LEWIS, head of the Special Operations Command, has outlined therole of his highly-trained troops at the Homelands Security Australia Conference in Sydney.
The counter-terrorism group was formed just after the Bali blasts and will eventuallyhave 2,000 members.
Major General LEWIS says his force will be used only as a last resort, backing up theefforts of police and other civil authorities.
