CANBERRA, AAP - Road fatalities for the first six months of 2001, compared to same period 2000.





* NSW - 302 deaths (2001), 364 (2000) - 17 per cent fall

* Victoria - 253 deaths (2001) 240 (2000) - 5.4 per cent increase

* Queensland - 180 deaths (2001) 185 (2001 - 2.7 per cent fall

* SA - 85 deaths (2001) 96 (2000) - 11.5 per cent fall

* WA - 99 deaths (2001) 117 (2000) - 15.4 per cent fall

* Tasmania - 45 deaths (2001) 26 (2000) - 73.1 per cent increase

* NT - 24 deaths (2001) 28 (2000) - 14.3 per cent fall

* ACT - 8 deaths (2001) 7 (2000) - 14.3 per cent increase
