NSW:Bradfield winner says victory a message for PM

Bradfield by-election winner PAUL FLETCHER says his election win sends a strong message
to Prime Minister KEVIN RUDD and federal Labor that climate change is not the number one
issue .. and many people simply do not understand the proposed Emissions Trading Scheme.

Mr FLETCHER has declared victory .. after counting shows the Liberal Party winning
a projected 63 per cent on a two-candidate preferred basis over Greens candidate SUSIE
GEMMELL's 37 per cent.

Mr FLETCHER says people told him they worry about private health insurance .. overdevelopment
.. and economic management .. with climate change being one of many issues .. but NOT
the number one issue.

There were 22 candidates contesting the Bradfield by-election .. including a pole-dancing
human rights lawyer for the Australian Sex Party.
