Dinara Safina believes she still has a lot of growing up to do after crashing out of the US Open at the semi-final stage to home favourite Serena Williams. The Russian has had a superb season so far, reaching the final in six of her past eight tournaments. She already reached the final of the French Open before falling at the final hurdle to Ana Ivanovic, andAa also came up agonisingly short at the Olympic Games, claiming silver. And she was found wanting at Flushing Meadows, crashing 6-3, 6-2 to two-time champion Williams. At least the 22-year-old was refreshingly honest as she pinpointed just what went wrong in New York. Things looked good for Safina when she broke Williams' serve at the first time of asking.
But she went on to make 41 unforced errors and converted only two out of six break-point opportunities in the 88-minute match, while Williams broke five times.Safina said: "I was behaving like a spoiled girl on the court and I can't do this in a semi-final of a Grand Slam. "I have to get better. She (Williams) behaved like a champion. She was there and fighting and was fighting with me and I was fighting with everything around except her."It has been a great year. I am playing my game and the results I am having are what I have been dreaming about - I just have to learn to handle my emotions better."
